Class 3: Electric bikes that are pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and a maximum assisted speed of 28 mph.
The State of Michigan has a minimum age of 14-years-old to operate a Class 3 e-bike. Those ages 14-18 are required to wear a helmet.
Class 3 electric bikes are allowed on roads and bike lanes and motorized trails. Linear paved trails (asphalt, limestone, or rail trail) and non-motorized trails are not allowed but is subject to location.
Class 3 e-bikes are typically found as sporty, commuter, or cargo bikes.
