Class 1 Electric Bikes
Class 1: Electric bikes with pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph.
The State of Michigan allows Class 1 e-bikes on all roads and bike lanes. Most are allowed on linear paved trails (asphalt, crushed limestone, or a rail trail). Class 1 electric bikes are not allowed (unless otherwise stated) on natural surface trails, but are allowed on motorized trails.
Pedal-assist electric bikes are a great option for those who prefer not to have a throttle. You can choose from varying levels of power based on your needs, whether that's a little boost to get across a street or more power to glide you home after a long day's ride.
